WHAT IS THE JOURNAL?
The only way to write better is to do it every day.
At Letterly, we believe that the best way to increase reading and written fluency is to practice on a consistent basis. We answer the following 3 questions:
What should my child be reading on a daily basis?
What should my child be writing on a daily basis?
How will my child be receiving feedback on their written work?
How It Works
In The Journal, students complete daily reading and writing tasks, receive personalized feedback, and track their progress through multiple rounds of editing and publishing. Let’s take a deep dive into how it works.
Learn
Begin with orientation to explore the program and get matched with a coach. They’ll tailor guidance to your goals and preferences throughout the process.
Read
Explore articles or stories chosen for their relevance and interest, building your critical reading and analytical skills.
Write
Time to write! Respond to a prompt based on the reading. You may write a hard news article, a soft feature, a critical review, or even a short story.
Edit
Time to work with your coach to refine your writing. Use their feedback to strengthen arguments, improve clarity, and polish your piece.
Publish!
Bring your work to life! Your final piece will be published and shared with a broader audience.
Articles written by our students have been published in The Journal.
Nearly all of our writers had a positive experience with their editors.
Students who wrote consistently improved half a full school level in only 2 months!
Many students went on to win gold & silver keys at Scholastic Writing Awards.
