Course syllabus
Our ELA coursework focuses on Annotated Reading, Applied Grammar, Building Paragraphs, and culminates with a Final Project.
- As you read The Giver, analyze the impact of characterization, word choice, and author’s point of view. Acquire new vocabulary using context clues and apply your knowledge of new note-taking techniques.
- Dive deep into the contrast between independent and dependent clauses. Learn how to clean up run-on sentences and properly combine multiple clauses.
- Practice the principle of unity between paragraphs and develop smooth transitions between narrative sections. Revisit expository paragraphs with a touch of descriptive language.
- Write a literary response of your own, beginning with an outline and mapping ideas onto narrative text. Strengthen your stance and revise your response with an editing exercise.

Hear What Our Students Have to Say!
"Having just finished up my freshman year, I am delighted to announce that English II was a breeze thanks to you. After taking all the different levels of Letterly, I gained the confidence to take the exam to skip a grade in English the very same year I took your classes."
“In school, I just read a passage and answer multiple choices ... at Letterly, we do more reading, annotating, and writing. We learn how to make it stronger using conjunctions, clauses, and more. We then learn how to use these methods in our writing”
