The WGI is a 1-to-1600score benchmarking your student's writing against a coach-calibrated rubric built from 12,000+ graded drafts.

It isn't an algorithm. A Letterly coach reads the whole draft, scores each of six dimensions, and writes the feedback you see. The number is the summary - the report is the substance.

Grades tell you how a draft did against one rubric on one day. The WGI scores six specific dimensions (ideas, structure, vocabulary, voice, mechanics, evidence) on a fixed scale, so you can see exactly where your student sits and what to work on.
